Nectar of Srimad-Bhagavatam

In the late 1960s, while Srila Prabhupada was translating and commenting on his monumental edition of the Srimad-Bhagavatam, he conceived of writing a book which would contain the essential teachings of the Bhagavatam as he was not sure how long he would remain manifest on this planet. He then composed a summary study of the most celebrated portion of the Bhagavatam, the Tenth Canto, and entitled it Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He often referred to it as the “Krsna book”. In his purport to Caitanya-caritamrta, Antya-lila 1.11, he explains:

Following in the footsteps of Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami, I am trying to translate Srimad-Bhagavatam as quickly as possible. However, knowing myself to be an old man and almost an invalid because of rheumatism, I have already translated the essence of all literatures, the Tenth Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam, as a summary study in English. I started the Krsna consciousness movement at the age of seventy. Now I am seventy-eight, and so my death is imminent. I am trying to finish the translation of Srimad-Bhagavatam as soon as possible, but before finishing it, I have given my readers the book Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, so that if I die before finishing the whole task, they may enjoy this book, which is the essence of Srimad-Bhagavatam.

In the Krsna book, Srila Prabhupada stated the result of studying this most important book:

The transcendental pastimes of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, are so powerful that simply by hearing, reading and memorizing this book, Krsna, one is sure to be transferred to the spiritual world, which is ordinarily very difficult to achieve. The description of the pastimes of Lord Krsna is so attractive that it automatically gives us an impetus to study repeatedly, and the more we study the pastimes of the Lord, the more we become attached to Him. This very attachment to Krsna makes one eligible to be transferred to His abode, Goloka Vrndavana. [Chapter 90]

Nectar of Srimad-Bhagavatam, an online correspondence course, is offered to help devotees study this great literature and thus relish the nectar of Srimad-Bhagavatam.

The course also incorporates the chapter summaries of the Tenth Canto by Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura, a great authority on the Srimad-Bhagavatam, who was often quoted by Srila Prabhupada.
